Sensex ends 25 points higher in volatile session

Frontline Indian indexes were volatile today as negative global cues affected sentiment early in the day. Indexes recovered from a weak start and gained modestly by early afternoon, only to slip again. The last hour saw another recovery which helped them to end with modest gains

Sensex closed with gains of 25 points at 13796 and the Nifty gained 10 points to end at 4077. Nifty May futures closed at a premium of 8 points to the spot index.

Reliance Petroleum saw a sharp up move today and was the best performer among Nifty stocks with gains of 7.74 per cent

Bajaj Auto rallied 4.26 per cent following the announcement that the company's board would consider the de-merger of its investment division

Reliance Communications gained 2.98 per cent and MTNL closed 1.43 per cent higher
