After two days of substantial gains, frontline Indian indexes were range-bound today. They opened lower on weak Asian cues, before recovering and moving into the green. They slipped again before noon, only to bounce back in afternoon trading.

Sensex closed with gains of 4 points at 14303 and the Nifty lost 5 points to end at 4215. Nifty May futures closed at a premium of 15 points to the spot index.

Bajaj Auto slipped substantially for the second day after the company said its business partner has the option to increase their stakes in insurance businesses at predetermined prices. Weak fourth quarter numbers also led to the sharp decline. The stock ended 8.68 per cent lower.

Among cement stocks, Gujarat Ambuja lost 3.36 per cent and ACC lost 1.35 per cent.

Among oil & gas stocks, HPCL lost 2.02 per cent and Reliance Petroleum closed 1.65 per cent lower.

PNB corrected 1.9 per cent after three days of gains.
