DoT pulls up Aircel
Calcutta: The department of telecommunications has pulled up mobile phone company Aircel-Digilink, an associate of Essar Cellphone, for migrating networks and escaping the per-subscriber licence fee.

Aircel-Digilink, which has the cellular licence for Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, had introduced a call card, which was registered in UP. The cards were widely distributed in Delhi under Essar Cellphone, enabling subscribers in Delhi as well as the three non-metro circles of Aircel-Digilink to make (only) outgoing calls.

The card could be used by Delhi subscribers without attracting any per subscriber-based licence fee, which is applicable for mobile phone operators in metro cities.
