David Ogilvy is no more
London: Legendary ad guru David Ogilvy,
founder of the worldwide agency Ogilvy & Mather, passed away on 21 July. He was 88.
Ogilvy, born in England of a Scottish father, founded the
agency in 1948 with two staffers following spells as a chef, a door-to-door gas cooker
salesman, and a farmer living with the Amish community in Pennsylvania. The agency now has
312 offices in 90 countries.
A master copywriter in his own right, his books,
"Confessions of an Advertising Man" and "Ogilvy on Advertising" are
treatises on advertising principles and considered as the Bible for aspiring advertisement
executives.
