Michael Capellas is Compaq CEO
Houston: Michael Capellas has been named
president and chief executive officer of Compaq Computer Corporation. Capellas has been
Compaq's chief operating officer. His promotion ended a search that began in April when
chief Executive Eckhard Pfeiffer was forced out by a board of directors unhappy about
declining earnings and a burgeoning inventory. Capellas,
a certified public accountant from Warren, Ohio, joined Compaq in 1988 after stints at
Oracle Corporation and SAP and also at Schlumberger, the oilfield services company.
