Richard Saldanha is Haldia Petro CEO
Calcutta: Richard B. Saldanha, president and
chief executive officer of Unilever, Peru, and a member of Unilever Latin America board,
has been selected managing director of Haldia Petrochemicals. Mr Saldanha will take over
from the present incumbent A. Krishnamurthy on 1 October.
His appointment as wholetime director of the company was approved
by the Haldia Petrochemicals board on 16 July.
Mr Saldanha, a graduate mechanical engineer, has spent
many years with the Unilever group.

Noshir Desai quits United
Studios
Mumbai: Noshir Desai, managing director of
Untied Studios, a UTV subsidiary, has resigned. He is joining an advertising agency,
Triton Communications as executive director.
Mr Desai will be responsible for Triton's growth into
diversified areas as television programming and marketing and direct marketing.

Firodia awards presented
Pune: Dr K. Kasturirangan, chairman of
Indian Space Research Organisation, Prof M.M. Sharma, former president of the Indian
National Science Academy, and Paul Ratnaswamy, director National Chemical Laboratory have
been nominated for this year's H.K. Firodia Awards for excellence in science and
technology.
The awards have been instituted by the Kinetic group of
companies.
Dr Kasturirangan will receive an amount of Rs two lakh for
his outstanding contribution in the realm of space technology, while Mr Sharma will
receive an equal amount for his contribution in the field of chemical engineering in
general and heterogeneous chemical reactions in particular.
Mr Ratnaswamy will receive Rs 1 lakh for his outstanding
contribution in the field of industrial catalysts.
Great Eastern
Bank CEO suspended
Washington: The Federal Reserve suspended
Joseph Liu, president and chief executive officer of the Great Eastern Bank, in Flushing,
New York.
Liu has been suspended effective 28 July for his
indictment and arrest on federal criminal charges of conspiracy, misapplication of bank
funds and making false entries in banks records.
