Malu, Malhotra to be on Ceat Financial board
Calcutta: B.S. Malu and O.P. Malhotra are likely to be inducted on the board of Ceat Financial Services in place of S. Goenka and H.V. Goenka, who have stepped down as directors.

Mr Malu may become the next chairman of the company with Mr S. Goenka moving out. Mr Malu is a long time associate of RPG Enterprises while Mr Malhotra has been with Philips Carbon Black. The other members on the board of the company are S.K. Bajoria, E.A. Kshirsagar, N.N. Kampani, A.D. Cooper, E.B. Desai, R.K. Kaul and S.S. Thakur.

Deepak Khaitan goes out of Bhishnauth Tea board
Calcutta
: Deepak Khaitan has stepped down as managing director of Bishnauth Tea, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BM Khaitan group Williamson Magor Company. Mr Khaitan has now taken over as managing director of Eveready India. He will be an ordinary director on the board of Bishnauth Tea.

Aditya Khaitan, son of B.M. Khaitan is joining the Bishnauth board as a director.

Mumbai: Ravi Venkatesan has been appointed chairman of Cummins India and Cummins Diesel Sales & Service (India).

Jaysing L. Deshmukh has been appointed managing director of Cummins India.

P.K. Sarkar tipped to be CMD of Uco Bank
Calcutta: P.K. Sarkar, chief of State Bank of India's Bengal circle is tipped to take charge of Uco Bank as chairman. Mr Sarkar is being considered along with those of other senior bankers for top slots in three public sector banks, which are expected to have new chairman and managing directors.

The term of Sharda Singh, the present chairman and managing director of Uco Bank ends on 31 December.

Key Sun software man quits
California: Alan Baratz, Sun Microsystems' key person handling the Java programming projects, has left the company after a month at the helm of the newly-created software division.

Mr Baratz has joined an affiliate of investment bank Warburg, Pincus & Co as managing director. He will become a member of the Warburg, Pincus information technology team.

Mr Baratz was for three years president of Java Software, overseeing Sun's efforts to extend the Java programming language into wider use. He became head of the new software division, into which Sun combined all its software products about a month ago.
