Ravi Pisharody of Philips quits
New Delhi: Ravi Pisharody, heading the
consumer electronic division of Philips India, has resigned. He is joining Castrol India
as vice president, marketing.
Philips India has appointed S.M. Singh, director,
business electronics, Philips - Asia Pacific in Singapore, to take over from Mr Pisharody.
Mr Pisharody, who has been with Philips for around 18
years, says he is at a point of his career when he wants to "broaden his
horizons" and meet the challenges that another sector could offer.
This is the second time in one year that the post of
vice president and head of consumer electronics division in Philips India is falling
vacant. Earlier, Ravi Kant had quit the company to join Tata Engineering and Locomotive
Co. Mr Pisharody was appointed in the slot created by Mr Kant's resignation.

New BSE ED to take charge
Mumbai: A.N. Joshi, the newly-appointed
executive director of the Bombay Stock Exchange, will be taking charge on 7 August. Mr
Joshi has already relinquished his duties as deputy managing director of the State Bank of
India and managing director of SBI Factors & Commercial Services.
Mr Joshi replaces R.C. Mathur, who has stepped down in
April 1999.

EBRD chief economist to quit
London: Nicholas Stern, chief economist
of the European Bank for Recosntruction and Development, will leave the bank in October to
take up academic and consutlancy jobs.
A bank statement said Mr Stern will take up a half-time
chair at the London School of Economics and he will become chairman of business
consultancy London Economics and a member of the advisory board of market analysis firm
IDEAglobal.com.
