Monsanto scientist quits
Bangalore: V.N. Balaji, director of the bio-informatics project at the Monsanto-Indian Institute of Science R&D Centre here, has quit. This has been described as a major setback for the life sciences multinational's research project in India.

The company said Mr Balaji has decided to resign of his own accord in order to pursue his personal plans. However, sources in the know said Mr Balaji had differences of opinion with the management.

Mr Balaji is an established scientist in bio-informatics and was instrumental in setting up Monsanto's only R&D centre in India.

Storey is CEO of Inmarsat
New York: Michael Storey is the new president and chief executive officer of Inmarsat, the global satellite communications major.

Mr Storey will be responsible for the company's day-to-day management from October 1999. He will also guide the development of Inmarsat's growth strategy and take it through an initial public offering of stock.

Stolar quits Sega America
San Francisco: Bernard Stolar, US chief of Japanese video game maker Sega Enterprises, has left the company ahead of the US launch of the company's ambitious Dreamcast game console.

Mr Stolar's departure is considered unusual because of the timing. Sega of America, the US unit of the Tokyo-based company, issued a statement that Toshiro Kezuka, who joined Sega America as deputy chairman, is named chief operating officer.
