Bhaskarudu quits Maruti
New Delhi: R.S.S.L.N. Bhaskarudu, managing
director of Maruti Udyog, has stepped down. This paves way for joint managing director
Jagdish Khattar to take over.
Mr Bhaskarudu is
expected to assume office as member of the Public Enterprises Selection Board. His term at
Maruti was to end in December 1999. It is not known why he has resigned ahead of
scheduled.
His appointment in August 1997 had caused a bitter
controversy between the partners of Maruti Udyog -- government of India and Suzuki Motor
Corporation -- with the latter going to the court. He has now quit both as managing
director and wholetime director of the company.
