J.A Chowdary quits Metamor
Hyderabad: J.A. Chowdary, one of the key figures behind the growth of the information technology industry in Hyderabad as director of the Software Technology Park in the city, has quit Metamor Enterprise Solutions, a subsidiary of Metamor Worldwide.

Mr Chowdary is launching his own company, PortalPlayer, as a subsidiary of a US information technology company. The new company's hardware development centre will be based at Santa Clara, and software design centre at Seattle, in the US, and the offshore development facility at Hyderabad.

Sony co-founder Morita dead
Tokyo: Akio Morita, co-founder of Sony Corporation, passed away in a Tokyo hospital at the age of 78.

Mr Morita was suffering from pneumonia. He is credited with several innovative products created by Sony, and had been the company's marketing brain. He began his career with inventor Masaru Ibuka in 1946, after refusing to take over his family's brewing business, and set up the firm that became a global electronic and entertainment giant.
