Kim is Daewoo president
New Delhi: S.J. Kim, vice-chairman of Daewoo Motors India, has been
appointed president and chief executive officer of Daewoo Motors of South Korea. Mr Kim
will leave India, and will be based in Seoul to head Daewoo Motor's global operations
outside Korea. He will continue to be a representative of Daewoo in the Indian subsidiary.

IPCL director quits to join
Reliance
Baroda: Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltds finance director N.
Chandar has resigned. He is planning to join Reliance Petroleum as head of its Jamnagar
project.
Meanwhile, the government has asked K.G. Ramanathan,
chairman and managing director of IPCL, to continue till the disinvestment process is
completed. Mr Ramanathans term was to end on 31 December 1999.

Prasad Chandran to be
BASF CMD
Mumbai: Prasad Chandran, director in charge of crop protection business,
BASF India, will be the companys new chairman and managing director. He will take
over from P.M. Thampi, current chairman and managing director, on 2 April 2000. Mr
Thampi is retiring from the company after 14 years as its head.
Mr Chandran has nearly 25 years of experience, and has
held senior positions in Rallis India and the erstwhile Searle (India), where he was
executive director.

Vajpeyi is COO of DSP
Merrill Lynch
Mumbai: Alok Vajpeyi is the new chief operating officer of DSP Merrill
Lynch Asset Management (India). Mr Vajpeyi will assume office on 1 January 2000. He will
be responsible for development of business including strategic direction, marketing,
distribution, legal, compliance and administration.
DSP Merrill Lynch has recently appointed R. Sreesankar as
executive vice-president of the company.
Under the new dispensation, Seema Thakore, chief
compliance officer, S. Ramanathan, chief administrative officer, and Gavin Azavedo, chief
marketing officer of DSP Merrill Lunch Mutual Fund will report to Mr Vajpeyi.
Mr Vajpeyi was head of equities with BZW India.

Manan Lalbhai dead
Mumbai: Manan Lalbhai, managing director of Atul, passed away at Valsad
in Gujarat, following a heart attack. He was 47. Mr Lalbhai, grandson of noted
industrialist Narottam Lalbhai, started his career with Arvind Mills in 1973.

Nike co-founder Bowerman
dead
Beaverton, Oregon: Bill Bowerman, 88, co-founder of Nike, is dead.
Bowerman, who was a former coach for the University of Oregon track team, had modelled the
first modern running shoe by pressing rubber in his wifes waffle iron. He remained
on the board of Nike till 1998.
