Glaxo chief plans tyo join academia
London: Richard Sykes, executive chairman of Glaxo Wellcome, is reported
to be considering quitting the company to join a top academic job. Reports in London
newspapers said Mr Sykes is a serious contender for a senior position in London
Universitys Imperial College, which will fall vacant in March 2001.A Glaxo spokesman, however, said Mr Sykes has no plans to step down
immediately. He may consider taking up an academic role after his retirement at 60, which
is to take place in 2002. Mr Sykes is a passionate advocate of science education.

Beatle Harrison
attacked
London: Former Beatle George Harrison, was attacked by an intruder in his
suburban London apartment. He was stabbed four times in the chest. Harrison, 56, has been
admitted to a hospital along with his wife, Olivia, who was also injured in the scuffle.
The hospital authorities said the duos injuries are not life-threatening. The
attacker was arrested.
About 19 years ago, another member of the renowned musical
group, John Lennon, was shot dead by a music fanatic outside his New York home.
