Tobaccowala retires as Voltas chairman
Mumbai: A.H. Tobaccowala has retired as chairman of Tata group company
Voltas after a 43-year career with the Tata group. He was appointed managing director of
Voltas in 1972.
Mr Tobaccowala will complete 75
years in March 2000 and his retirement is in line with the Tata groups policy that
requires senior directors step down from office on attaining the age of 75. He is also
likely to quit from the Tata Sons board while continuing on the board of Voltas as a
director.

Raut to head Central
Depository
Mumbai: V.V. Raut, head of market operations at the Bombay Stock
Exchange, has been appointed chief executive officer of Central Depository Services Ltd.
He will head the depository till a new managing director is found. The BSE is the main
promoter of the depository.
Mr Raut has wide experience in handling settlements at the
exchange.

Climate award for
Bakshi
New Delhi: Rakesh Bakshi, chairman of RRB Consultants and Engineers, has
been awarded the Climate Technology Leadership award instituted by Climate Technology
Initiative. The award recognises the promotion of climate-friendly technologies and
practices in developing countries as well as countries changing over to free market
economies.
Robert Priddle, executive director of International Energy
Agency, presented the award to Mr Bakshi at the fifth conference of the Parties to the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change recently.
