SAIL, Tisco hike steel prices
Calcutta: Steel majors Steel Authority of India Ltd and Tata Iron and Steel Company have raised the prices of steel across the board and cut rebates. Steel prices will be up by Rs 1,000 per tonne on an average.

This is for the first time in the financial year 1999-2000 that steel prices have been hiked across the board. Earlier price increases applied to specific items like hot tolled coils and plates. The present price increase will be effected either by increasing listed prices or slashing discounts, or a combination of both, the steel companies’ officials said.

Global steel prices have increased 30 to 40 per cent over the last six months.
