M&Ms Quadro can be customised
on the Net
Mumbai: Mahindra and Mahindra has unveiled its new four-wheel drive
vehicle, the Quadro, which the company says can be booked on the Internet. A new
subsidiary company, Mahindra Auto Specialties, has been set up to undertake customisation
requirements of the vehicle.
The sporty,
limited-edition Quadro will be targeted at an upmarket, young-at-heart clientele. The base
version of the vehicle is priced at Rs 4.5 lakh, ex-factory, and upgradation of the model
with all customised accessories will cost another Rs 4.5 lakh. The vehicle is fitted with
a 72.5 horse power, 2.5-litre diesel engine and five transmission overdrives.
Buyers will have customisation options like power
steering, air-conditioning, music system, carpets, hardtop, alloy wheels and anti-glare
view mirrors. Individual buyers can choose their vehicles, customise them and also select
accessories on the Internet at mahindraquadro.com
The company has also introduced a 10-seater three-wheeler
that runs on batteries. The vehicle, which operates on a set of 12 batteries, will not
have an engine, clutch or gearshift mechanism.

Ford keen on Indian
components
New Delhi: Ford Motor Company is looking at India as a possible component
supplier for its worldwide production. The company has evolved a joint programme with the
Automotive Component Manufacturers Association, under which a Ford team will visit Indian
component suppliers and investigate sourcing possibilities for engines, transmissions,
plastic parts, etc..

Nagarjuna group
divests holding in IT company
Hyderabad: The Nagarjuna group has decided to divest its equity in
Infoquest Systems following a mutual understanding between group chairman K.S. Raju and
Infoquest managing director Satya Bolli. The group had acquired a 50 per cent holding in
Infoquest Systems as part of its foray into information technology. Mr Raju will continue
as a director on the board of the company.

Daewoo wins NHPC
contract
Seoul: Daewoo Corporation says it has won a $84-million order jointly
with Japans Kajima Corporation for a hydroelectric power plant project in India.
Daewoo and Kajima will undertake the first stage construction of the power plant being set
up in Uttar Pradesh by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The project includes
a dam and a tunnel, which will be undertaken by Daewoo, while Kajima will take up the
management and supervision of the project.

DaimlerChrysler
drops SUV plan
Detroit: DaimlerChrysler has dropped plans for a full-size Jeep sports
utility vehicle, according to company sources. The worlds No 5 auto company is
understood to have informed part suppliers that it is dropping the plan as it is concerned
over fuel economy requirements, rising gas prices and the vehicles pricing. The
company has planned the vehicle for production between 2002 and 2004 at its Pillette Road
assembly plant near Windsor, Ontario.

Seaboard sells
poultry division
New York: Seaboard Corporation said it has completed the $375-million
sale of its poultry division to ConAgra. The poultry division, which produces products for
food services, operates six processing facilities with annual sales of $450 million.
