Long-distance telecom set to grow to Rs.20,800 crore by
2004-05
Mumbai: A report prepared by
CRIS-INFAC, a research arm of the Credit Rating Information Services of India Ltd.
(CRISIL), has projected that domestic long-distance telecommunications market is expected
to grow to Rs 20,800 crore by 2004-2005 from Rs 12,600 crore in 1999-2000.
The study released on Wednesday has
projected that average long-distance call prices would however, fall by 31 per cent by
March 2005 from March 2000 levels. It says that the total market, the inter-circle market
for DLD services -- or the traffic between two telecom licence areas -- is projected to
rise to Rs 13,500 crore by 2004-2005 from Rs 8,400 crore in 1999-2000.
The study has however, warned that profitability in the industry might be affected, if
there were too many players providing long-distance voice services.
