WTO will consider more grace time for new trade rules
Hyderabad: Mr. Mike Moore, director-general, World Trade Organisation (WTO), has said
that the world trade body is likely to consider providing more grace period to India
implement the new trade rules. This would help soften the cultural shock and aberrations
being felt in the country.
Mr. Moore said
such concession is given on case by case basis and is nothing unusual, as many countries
had taken longer period to straighten their legal and legislative procedures before
seeking membership of the WTO. He said the WTO could not make much progress in its mission
without the participation of India and said the countrys national income will go up
by 4.4 percent in the second round of reforms and liberalisation.
