Prasar Bharati head to be BG Verghese
New Delhi
—Veteran journalist BG Verghese may head the Prasar Bharati board by August this year.
Verghese’s candidature was backed by, vice-president of India, Krishna Kant and senior journalist T V R Shenoy. He was pitted against MS Swaminathan, agriculture scientist, who has the backing of Justice PB Sawant, chief of the Press Council of India.
With the Press Council chief retiring on August 7, the stage has been set for Verghese’ elevation as the chairman of the Rs 700-crore body. He is at present the defence adviser.

Shaw Wallace makes new appointments in top positions
New Delhi
-- Deepak Choudhary has joined Shaw Wallace as senior vice-president, sales and marketing of beer division. Choudhary has left the UB group’s US-based company, Ten Springs Brewing Company.
SWC has been in the process of changing its entire top brass by appointing professionals from various industries to make the company globally competitive.
The company has also been revamping its core businesses. SWC has appointed Heidrick and Struggle, the US-based agency to look for a suitable person to fill the position of the CEO.
In its liquor business, SWC has appointed Shridhar Chari as vice-president (finance) who will be looking after accounts, treasury etc. Chari has left his job as the managing director, Nagarjuna Finance to join the company. The position was lying vacant for the last five months after Balan Vasudev left the company.
In a move to consolidate its liquor business, the company has created a new position of liquor (marketing) to focus on marketing of its liquor brands. N P Thirukode has joined the company as vice-president liquor (marketing) with a thirty-years experience in advertising and marketing.
Rajiv Puri is also a new entrant and has joined the company as vice-president liquor (sales).
There have been major changes in the beer division with internal reshuffles. For instance, Krishna Angara is promoted as the head of beer division. He has replaced Satpal Chaudhary who has been given other responsibilities like looking after international beer alliances.
Angara will continue to hold his previous charge of strategic planning.
