Cisco announces
reshuffle
San Jose Cisco Systems has announced a major
reorganisation of its operations and reaffirmed that
its business is showing signs of steadying in the
first weeks of the current quarter.
The changes will align Cisco's focus around customers'
requirements as the networking and communications
markets consolidate, said John Chambers, the company's
chief executive.
Under the new plan, Cisco's engineering organization
will focus on 11 technology groups.
Chambers also announced several executive changes,
including the departure of Kevin Kennedy, who was
senior vice president of the service provider line of
business.
Mario Mazzola, a former senior vice president, was
named chief development officer. He will report
directly to Chambers and will oversee the 11 new
technology groups.
Charlie Giancarlo, formerly senior vice president of
the commercial line of business, will run four of the
new groups and will report to Mazzola.
Michelangelo Volpi, who was previously Cisco's chief
strategy officer, will oversee the largest new
technology area, Internet Switching and Services. He
also will report to Mazzola.
James Richardson, who was senior vice president of the
enterprise line, was named chief marketing officer. He
