P Vohra to head IDBI
Mumbai - National Housing Bank (NHB) Chairman P.P. Vora has
been appointed as the chairman and managing director (CMD) of the
Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI). His appointment was
cleared by the government after the central vigilance commission gave
him a clean chit.
Mr Vora's appointment had been delayed because the ministry of finance
was awaiting the Central Vigilance Commission's (CVC) clearance.

Bachchan quits Tehelka

Bachchan has resigned from the board of directors of Tehelka. Bachchan
was a non-executive director of the Internet start-up company, along
with columnist Khushwant Singh and writer V.S. Naipaul.
Tarun Tejpal, Tehelka CEO and editor-in-chief, said he had received a
letter from the filmstar in which Bachchan explained that since his
own company, AB Corp, was planning an initial public offering to raise
capital from the market, his fund managers had advised him against
continuing his association with another media company to avoid a
conflict of interest.
Last week, the Centre had filed an affidavit with the Justice
Venkataswami Commission, probing the Tehelka newsbreak, in which it
alleged that the website had ulterior motives like manipulating the
capital markets and driving stock prices down

K M Birla to step down from MRPL board
Mumbai - Kumar Mangalam Birla, the Aditya Birla group chairman,
has resigned from the board of the joint venture Mangalore Refinery
and Petrochemicals. MRPL has nominated B N Puranmalka in Mr Birlas
place. Mr Birlas exit is considered a precursor to the Birla groups
move to divest the petroleum business. The Birla group has a 37.5 per
cent stake in MRPL.
