Markets
improve
Mumbai:
Indian markets improved today
with the Sensex recording a jump by about 3 per cent within
minutes of the opening bell. Some of the upbeat mood was due to a
strong opening at the Asian markets. At the end, the Sensex closed at
2652 with a gain of almost 2 per cent. The Nifty shut shop at 868 with
a gain of a little more than 1.5 per cent. The broader markets ended
trade at 561.
There were clear signs of a better mood at the stock markets today --
644 shares advanced while only 340 shares declined.
Among the winners,
Wipros stock closed at 1065 with a huge 20 per cent gain. It
had been battered down quite badly in the last few trading sessions.
Topping the volume chart was Satyam Computers. The stock closed at 121
with a gain of 7 per cent. The technology blue chip company Infosys
was also among the winning stocks, up to 2402 with an 8 per cent gain.
BHEL also saw some renewed buying after the US removed economic
sanctions on India. The US curb on imports of critical defence and
telecommunications components had marginally hit the company. The
stock today gained almost 7 per cent.
Among the losers, pharma companies appeared to be under the sell
hammer. Dr Reddys was down to 1725 and Cipla closed at 1124.
