Markets recover
Mumbai: The market witnessed a smart recovery backed by domestic financial institutions with the Sensex gaining 50 points on Wednesday. After coming under pressure in the last few trading sessions, the markets derived strength from a smart rally in heavyweights like RIL, HLL, ITC to report gains on support from domestic institutions.

The Sensex opened the day at 2621.89 points and went to an intra-day high of 2682.59 points before closing at 2667.34 points - up 50 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the S&P CNX Nifty reported a gain of 12.30 points to close at 873.70.

The highlight of the day was RIL, which was frozen at the upper level of the circuit till the end. Refinery stocks, too, witnessed heavy activity, followed by the pharma and banking sector. HLL and ITC showed resilience by bouncing back after initial hiccups.
