Zakaria appointed
co-president at Merrill Lynch
Mumbai: Mr
Arshad Zakaria has been appointed co-president of corporate &
institutional client group (CICG) of Merrill Lynch with executive
responsibility for the global investment banking, debt, equity and
securities services divisions.
Merrill Lynch said that Mr Zakaria and Paul Roy had succeeded Tom
Davis as co-presidents. Both will serve on the executive management
committee, the apex body of Merrill Lynch & Co Inc.
At 39, Mr Zakaria is one of the youngest Indians to be elevated to
this coveted position on Wall Street. The CICG business accounts for
almost half of Merrill Lynchs revenues of $27 billion (Rs 1,29,600
crore) last year. A product of Cathedral and John Connon School in
Mumbai, Mr Zakaria joined Merrill Lynch in 1987 in investment banking
and was named managing director in 1991.
A graduate in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, he received
his MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he
was a Baker Scholar and recipient of the Loeb-Rhoades Fellowship in
finance.
Mr Zakaria is the son of Dr Rafiq Zakaria and Mrs Fatima Zakaria.
