soars 102 pts
Mumbai:
The impressive quarterly
performance of technology major Infosys Technologies and Hindustan
Levers announcement of a bonus issue of debentures sent the Bombay
Stock Exchange sensitive index (sensex) soaring by 102.18 points or
3.66 per cent on Wednesday to touch 2,896.60.
Infosys Technologies scrip
was up 4.02 per cent to Rs 2,512.60. Infosys better-than-expected
quarterly performance renewed interest on the technology sector. Other
technology scrip which registered an upward movement included those of
Satyam Computer, NIIT, Wipro, Digital Equipment, Hughes Software and
Polaris Software.
There was all-round buying in
heavyweight stocks. Hindustan Lever (up 8.92 per cent to Rs 230.25)
rose after the company announced plans to hike its FII investment
limit to 49 per cent from the current 24 per cent.
