Ford plans import of new cars
New Delhi: Ford Motor Company is planning to introduce in the Indian market at least five new imported vehicles. These include, Escape, a sports utility vehicle, with a price tage of Rs 14 lakh.

Ford is planning to introduce multi-utility vehicles, sports utility vehicles and passenger sedans to the Indian market.

Silverline to buy CTC unit
Mumbai: Silverline Technologies plans to buy one of the subsidiaries of the US-based CTC, ecomServer.

The acquisition is part of Silverline's strategy to enhance its global reach by complementing its services offerings and adding more clients.

Silverline had earlier this year acquired the US-based Internet technology services firm SeraNova Inc.

NIIT gains market share
New Delhi: NIIT said on Monday it had increased its market share of the education business by 2.5 per cent in the three months to September.

The market share rose after NIITintroduced new courses focusing on cutting-edge technologies and invested in brand-building, the company said in a statement.

NIIT competes mainly with Aptech and SSI for computer and software education.

Amul to start pizza factory
New Delhi: Amul will set up a Rs 20-crore ready-made frozen pizza factory in Gandhinagar.

"The state-of-the-art manufacturing unit with a capacity to produce one lakh pizzas per day will be operational within four months", managing director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul) B M Vyas said here.

STPI invites proposals for fibre connectivity
New Delhi: Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) on Monday invited bids for selecting a fibre bandwidth provider to give connectivity service from landing station in India to US.

STPI is looking for international fibre connectivity access from its centres in India to North America to provide datacom services to its consumers across the country.
An autonomous organisation under IT ministry, the role of STPI is to promote software exports from India and facilitate datacom services.

STPI has set up 29 satellite-based gateways across the country and is handling about 160 Mbps of data to 23 countries.

Daewoo plant faces liquidation
Seol: Daewoo Motor's Indian plant is facing liquidation with its capital already eroded by losses, a South Korean newspaper reported Monday.

Daewoo Motor's creditors and sister company Daewoo Corporation may take on $1.05 billion in costs associated with the possible liquidation of Daewoo Motor India Ltd. (DMIL), the Seoul Economic Daily said.

DMIL's operating losses of $120 million have eroded 77 percent of its capital as of end-October, it said. The Indian company has an annual capacity of 72,000 automobiles.

Coke in race with Rasna
Chennai: Coca Cola India has struck a deal with Medimix to distribute its forthcoming powder drink Sunfill in Tamil Nadu. The company wants to make available the softdrink concentrate in every grocery and general store to take the Rasna brand head on in the state.

Rasna currently enjoys 85 per cent market share of powder drink or soft drink concentrate.

India is one of the first markets where Coca-Cola is launching a soft drink concentrate. Sunfill will not be manufactured by the Coca-Cola company, but will be sourced from a contract manufacturer.

Escorts tractor plant strike ends
New Delhi: The two-and-a-half-month-old strike at the tractor plants of Escorts Ltd was called off on Monday.

The strike involved about 2,000 employees.

The strike affected production at two plants of Escorts that manufactured the Farmtrac range of tractors and farm equipment and the Powertrac range of tractors. The plants had a capacity to make over 120 tractors a day.

Bharti Tele files IPO papers
Mumbai: Bharti Televentures on Monday filed its initial public offer (IPO) document with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). The company plans to offer 185,336,700 equity shares with a face value of Rs 10 each through a 100 per cent book-building process.

The company would be offering 10 per cent of its post issue capital of Rs 1,853.37 crore to the public.

Currently, the promoters hold 51.6 per cent of the equity in Bharti Televentures, 17.7 per cent is held by Singapore Telecom and 20.6 per cent is held by UBS Warburg.

Bharti Televentures runs four wholly owned subsidiaries-Bharti Cellular in the cellular business, Bharti Telenet in the access business, Bharti Telesonic in the long-distance business and Bharti Broadband Networks in the broadband solutions business.

3 Tata firms plan strategic alliance
Mumbai: At least three Tata companies --- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd (Taco) and Tata Technologies Ltd -- are forming an alliance to jointly bid for contracts to provide engineering services for the automotive industry.

Other Tata companies, too, may be involved later in the collaboration. They include truck and car maker Tata Engineering, Tata Infotech and Tata Elxsi in information technology, and Tata Honeywell and Nelco.
