Coal sector not to be
privatised
Patna:
Union coal and mines minister Ram Vilas Paswan has ruled out
privatization of the coal sector saying, "Neither Coal India
Limited nor any other coal company will be privatized."
The minister said the management of Apollo group of hospitals had
been asked to look after the medicare of five lakh employees in
his department. Besides, Bata India Limited had been asked to
supply shoes to miners from January.

Sinha
moots IIF
Ottawa:
Finance minister Yashwant Sinha has proposed creation of a special
fund which could open a concessional line of credit.
"The international investment fund will secure investible
funds at affordable costs for countries which otherwise have
relatively poorer access to international financial markets,"
he said at the International Monetary and Financial Committee
meeting of the board of governors of the IMF.
"This should come as an additive to the grants meant for
social development activities like education, health, sanitation
and drinking water, he added.

Disinvestment
of IBP, VSNL on course
Kolkata:
Minister for disinvestment Arun Shourie said on Sunday the
government's programme of divesting its stake in Indo Burma
Petroleum and Videsh Sanchar Nigam was on course.
He said the government was fully geared up for disinvestment in 13
public enterprises in the current financial year as had been
decided by the cabinet committee on disinvestment earlier.
Referring to IBP, Shourie said the disinvestment plan was
contingent upon the post-APM regime, which is to come to force in
April 2002.
On VSNL, the minister said the financial bids would be invited
either in the last week of December or in the first week of
January.
