Indian Airlines to
induct 38 new aircrafts
New
Delhi: Indian Airlines will induct 38 new aircraft at an
estimated cost of Rs 9,000 crore to replace its ageing Airbus A300
and Boeing 737 aircrafts.
Minister of civil aviation Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told the Rajya
Sabha that the airlines capacity was being augmented to cater to
annual growth in traffic of around five per cent.
He said the Government had decided to release Rs 325 crore as
equity infusion in the state owned domestic carrier in the form of
margin money. The remaining cost would be met by the airlines
through internal resources and external borrowings.

CBI
exonerates Mascarenhas
New
Delhi: The CBI has exonerated former Air-India managing
director Michael Mascarenhas from corruption charges.
The CBI has submitted its report to the civil aviation ministry
clearing the high-profile former MD of the charges that had been
made against him.
A preliminary enquiry by the CBI had been initiated against
Mascarenhas in June this year after the civil aviation ministry
charged that he had favoured Welcome travels, a former general
sales agent (GSA) of the airlines in the UK, thereby causing
losses to AI. The ministry had suspended Mascarenhas on May 22 on
the ground of commercial misconduct.
