HC clears Jaya's return
Chennai:
The Chennai high court has acquitted former Tamil Nadu chief
minister Jayalalithaa of all charges in the Tansi land deal and
the Pleasant Stay Hotel cases.
Holding that the prosecution had failed to establish charges
against her, Justice N Dinakaran said there was no sinister
motive involved in the sale of 55 plots of land in view of the
open tender system adopted for it.
"There was no wrongful gain or loss to the state
exchequer," said the judge whose order evoked spontaneous
scenes of joy and cracker bursting by delirious AIADMK fans who
thronged Jayalalithaa's residence and the party headquarters.
