bans PWG and MCC

Delhi: The Centre has banned and declared as 'terrorist
organisations' People's War Group (PWG) and Maoist Communist
Centre (MCC) with immediate effect in the wake of stepped up
violence in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and some other states.
"The Communist Party of India (Maxist-Lennist)--People's War
and all its formations and front organisations and Maoist
Communist Centre and all its formations and front organisation
have been declared as terrorist organisations under the provisions
of clause (a) sub-section (2) of Section 18 of Prevention of
Terrorism Ordinance, 2001 with immediate effect," an official
press note said.
With today's action, the number of outfits banned and declared as
terrorist groups has gone up to 25. The Ordinance, promulgated on
October 24, had procribed 23 outfits including Lashkar-e-Taiba,
Jaish-e-Mohammad, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Hizbul Mujahideen, ULFA
and SIMI.

All India Bank
strike on Jan 4
Kolkata:
The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) has announced
that all the employees in the banking industry throughout the
country will observe a day's strike on January 4, 2002 against
'inhuman' and 'barbaric' attitude of Standard Chartered Bank
management against its employees in Kolkata.
The decision to go in for an All India strike was taken in an
extented office-bearers' meeting, AIBEA General Secretary
Tarakeswar Chakraborti said.

India to build $969
mn fertiliser plant in Oman
New Delhi:
India and Oman on Wednesday signed an initial agreement to build a
$969 million fertiliser plant in the Gulf state.
State-run Oman Oil Company would hold a 50 per cent stake in the
project while India's Krishak Bharti Cooperative Ltd (Kribcho) and
Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative (IFFCO) would hold the
remaining 25 per cent each, an official statement said here.
The project would produce 1.65 million tonnes of granulated urea
and 0.25 million tonnes of surplus ammonia per year. The
fertiliser plant would be built by Snamprogetti of Italy and
Technip of France.
