ONGC strikes oil
New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has discovered a new oil and gas bearing structure in Western Offshore, about 6-km east of Bassein (Vasai) gas field.

The new discovery is estimated to have reserves of over 65 million tonnes of oil and oil equivalent gas.

The new gas finds are estimated to have seven billion cubic metres of gas reserves.

Flex chief moves HC for bail
New Delhi: Flex Industries chairman Ashok Chaturvedi, who was arrested by CBI along with suspended Delhi area chief commissioner of Central Excise Someshwar Mishra for offering the latter a bribe of Rs 10 lakh, has moved the Delhi High Court for bail.

Justice S K Agarwal issued notice to CBI directing the agency to file its reply to Chaturvedi's bail application by December 19.
Chaturvedi, from whose possession CBI has claimed to have recovered bills of several hotels he had allegedly paid for various politicians and bureaucrats, sought bail on the ground that investigation against him is over.

He was arrested by CBI on November seven after he allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh bribe to Mishra at his office and has been in judical custody for about a fortnight.

RITES bags $500,000 African contract
New Delhi: The Indian Railway subsidiary, RITES, has bagged a $500,000 contract for managing and assisting railways in Central-Eastern African country of Malawi.

RITES would appoint a chief executive officer and a chief financial officer who, in turn, would appoint other officers to run the Malawi Railways.

RITES is also undertaking a two-month study on traffic, investment, financial and economic viability of reconstruction of the Mozambique Railways that would fetch over $100,000.

CIIs social summit begins
Pune: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is holding its fourth social summit beginning Sunday till 12 December in Pune. The theme of the summit is Convergence on Social Issues: Promoting Responsible Corporate Citizenship. The summit will particularly focus on womens empowerment and rural development in addition to the usual thrust areas like health, population and literacy.
