Sensex absorbs terror tremor
New Delhi:
The tremor of the terrorist attack in Parliament on Thursday was felt
immediately in the stock markets. The BSE Sensex-almost flat at around
previous close level of 3,412-took a steep plunge by around 100 points
right after the attack. However, the market heaved a sigh of relief
when news came in that the situation was under control.
The other financial indicators-like government securities and currency
markets-also went down soon after the news of the attack. But like the
Sensex, they recovered later.
However,
all the financial markets closed in negative territory. The rupee,
which had fallen by around 8 paise per dollar, recovered and closed at
Rs 47.87, 4 paise lower than the previous close.
