Delhi academic arrested for
Parliament attack

Delhi: Police
on Sunday arrested four people on charges of being co-conspirators in the
attack on Parliament which left 12 people dead.
The arrested include a Delhi academic,
A R Geelani, and three others from Kashmir, Shaukat, Afzal and Afsana alias
Navjot.
Geelani is a lecturer of Arabic at the
Zakir Hussain College (Evening) of Delhi University.

Inflation
drops to 2-decade low

Delhi: Continuing its downward spree, inflation dropped to two-decade low
of 2.27 per cent in the week ended 1 December, as compared to 8.33 per cent in
the corresponding period last year, despite soaring prices of vegetables, eggs,
fruits, meat, fish and coconut oil.
The change in the price level as measured by Wholesale Price Index (WPI) saw a
sharp 0.13 per cent fall in the latest reported week from 2.40 per cent in the
previous week mainly on account of lower prices of furnace oil, light speed
diesel, rice, sooji, atta, beer and alcohol.

have 58 year-old air hostesses

Delhi: The Supreme Court has permitted Air-India air hostesses to fly up to
the age of 58 but stayed the Bombay High Court order directing the airliner to
treat them equal with male flight stewards in respect of promotional benefits.
Upholding the Bombay High Court order to the extent of allowing the air
hostesses to fly up to the age of 58 years, the apex court, however, granted an
interim stay on Friday on the high court order making them equal to the male
stewards in respect of promotional benefits till pendency of the case.

DoD
opens dialogue with global bankers

Delhi: The Department of Disinvestment (DoD) has asked international
investment bankers like JP Morgan Stanley and ANZ Grindlays to rope in more
investors to buy stake in PSUs.
The Disinvestment Ministry's strategy is to hard sell Indian PSUs in overseas
markets on the strength of completion of few privatisation deal in the last few
weeks and a very favourable verdict of the Supreme Court on disinvestment of
government's majority stake in Balco.

CTV
exports grow by 136%

Delhi: Colour Television exports grew by a whopping 136 per cent to Rs 187
crore in 2000-01, with overall consumer electronics (CE) exports surging 38 per
cent.
Consumer electronics exports grew to Rs 620 crore in 2000-01 from Rs 450 crore
in the previous fiscal, largely buoyed by growth in CTV, public address
systems, clocks, video recording and watch exports, as per a study conducted by
Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC).
The major destinations for exports of CTVs were UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore,
Britain, Poland, Bangladesh, Iran, Spain, hong Kong, Australia and Kenya.
