Govt to invite bids for VSNL by
Jan-end
New Delhi: The
government will invite financial bids for the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd by the
end of January. The government plans to reduce its 52.97 percent stake in VSNL
to 26 percent by selling a 25 percent stake along with management control to a
strategic partner and another 1.97 percent to VSNL's employees.
The government has also decided to sell 51 percent of the stake in Shipping
Corporation of India, in which the government owns almost 80 percent. The
government's stake in Shipping Corporation would be brought down to 26 percent.
The government has set a January-end deadline for inviting financial bids for
oil marketing firm IBP Ltd.

Uttar
Pradesh poll dates announced
New Delhi: Assembly
elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 14,18 and 21 while those in
Punjab will be held on February 13, Uttaranchal on February 14 and Manipur on
February 14 and 21.
By-elections to six Lok Sabha
constitutencies -- one each in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya
Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura -- will take place on February 21.
By-elections to six Assembly seats -- three in Tamil Nadu and one each in
Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan -- will be conducted on the same day along
with Lok Sabha by-elections.

Eight firms
keen to develop JNPT bulk terminal
Mumbai:
Eight firms have evinced interest in the development of the bulk terminal of
the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
These include: Engineering major
Skanska Cementation India, Mahindra Realty & Infrastructure Developers,
Maersk India, P&O Ports, Hutchison International Port Holdings, ICTSI Ltd,
Halcrow and Container Marine Agencies.
The Rs 700 core project entails
redevelopment of bulk terminal site involving design, finance, construction,
management and operation of the same for a maximum license period of 30 years.
