Blair inaugurates Centre for
Good Governance
Hyderabad: British
Prime Minister Tony Blair inaugurated the first-of-its-kind Centre for Good
Governance here on 6 January.
Blair, who unveiled a plaque of the
6-million pound UK-funded CCG, complimented the state government approach after
he had a glimpse of its various e-governance initiatives.
Blair said that the effectiveness of
government was dependent on the effectiveness of progress and efficiency in
delivering services.
"I have seen the way technology
is being applied for governance. Information technology has enormous potential
in classrooms, business and implementation of Government services covering
taxation, property dealings and passports."

Biman to tap Indian cargo
Calcutta: Biman
Bangladesh Airlines is planning to concentrate on the Indian air cargo market
in view of the quantum growth in the volume of air cargo business in this
country.
To tap the cargo market in India,
Biman Bangladesh has taken several measures including strengthening sales
activities, incentives to agents, improvement in customer services, efficient
airport cargo-handling and proper monitoring and follow-up of cargo movement
from booking to destinations.
There is also a possibility to launch
separate freighter flights by the company to and from India in future.

33 drugs placed under price
control list
New Delhi: Some of
the top selling drugs are being brought under drug price control order. In the
revised list of 33 drugs to be brought under price control, 20 are new
additions.
The note on new drug policy will be soon sent to the cabinet committee on
economic affairs for clearance. Under the new criteria, molecules with a
turnover of over Rs 20 crore for the year ended March 2001 will be brought
under the price control if one company has a market share of over 50 per cent.
In case of monopoly drugs where a company has a market share of over 90 per
cent, the turnover limit has been raised to Rs 5 crore from Rs 1 crore.
Among the new additions to the price control list are hepatitis A and hepatitis
B vaccines, diclofenac, povidone iodine, glibenclamide, piroxiam, amikacin,
metformin, phenytoin, hydroxyprogesterone, cefaclor, cofuroxime, ofloxacin,
noscaprine, and norethisterone.

AIR to offer complete solution
to Mumbai FM players
New Delhi: All India Radio
has decided to offer a complete solution package to private FM operators in
Mumbai.
Entertainment Network, Radio Today,
Millennium Mumbai, Music Broadcast Pvt Ltd and Radio Mid-day West have the
license to operate FM stations from Mumbai.
Prasar Bharati officials are scheduled
to meet private FM operators on 9 January 9 to offer them a complete solution
package. The capital investment for the Mumbai solution package, which includes
building a new tower, is estimated at Rs 15 crore.

IIM-C plans e-learning
Kolkata: The Indian
Institute of Management, Calcutta, is planning to introduce online distance
education. It has formed a three-member committee to hasten the initiative. It
has teamed up with publishing house Macmillan India to jointly offer the
management development programmes online.
IIM-C plans to offer a programme each
on corporate finance and organisational behaviour under the management
development programme. Each course will be of six weeks duration and open to
working executives. They are expected to begin in late January.

Gujarat, Rajasthan sign tourism
pact
Ahmedabad: Rajasthan
Tourism Development Corporation and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat have signed
a memorandum of understanding to have common reservation for hotels, conducting
inter-state package tours, taking up joint publicity and marketing campaign for
the activities of both the corporations.
