Yves
Saint Laurent retires
Paris: French fashion
designer Yves Saint Laurent has announced his retirement and the
closure of his haute couture business.
Saint Laurents last collection will be on show later this month,
marking the 40th anniversary of the haute couture business that he
founded with his partner Pierre Berge.
Born in Algeria in 1936, Saint Laurent shot to fame in 1958 with his
first collection for Christian Dior. Since then he has become a
by-word for elegant chic, and perhaps the pre-eminent figure in
post-war fashion.
