Adidas-Salomon boycotts leather
from India
Herzogenaurach:
Adidas-Salomon, one of the world's leading sportswear manufacturers, will
boycott leather imports from India and China in protest against the treatment
of animals there.
The company will not import any leather from India and China as long as laws on
the transport and slaughter of animals are not respected, a spokesman said.
Adidas-Salomon is the latest in a list of brands including Gucci, Esprit and
Reebok, to take such action.

HC to
hear PILs against Dabhol on Feb 6
Mumbai: The Bombay high
court will hear ten public interest litigations challenging legality of
bankrupt Enron's Dabhol Power Company (DPC), power purchase agreement entered
into with Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB), the high tariff charged
by DPC and guarantees provided by the government to the project.
The petitions will be heard by justices Ajit Shah and Vijaya Tahilramani. Four
PILs have been filed in Mumbai while six others before the Nagpur bench. They
have been clubbed together as issues raised therein are common.
