Cement prices crash
Mumbai: Cement prices have crashed across the country. Prices in the south, till recently the most lucrative market for producers, have dropped by Rs 10-15 per 50 kg bag to Rs 140-145 per bag last week. In Mumbai, wholesale cement prices have tumbled from Rs 138-140 per 50 kg bag to Rs 135 while retail prices fell last week from Rs 154 to about Rs 148 per bag.

Prices in Andhra Pradesh have fallen to levels as low as Rs 125 per bag.

The Bhopal and Raipur belt has seen prices tumbling to Rs 115 and Rs 110 per bag, respectively. Markets in the East and in the North seem to be no better with prices in the main markets like Kolkata and Delhi plunging to less than Rs 120 per bag.

Sporadic violence continues in Gujarat
Ahmedabad: Sporadic incidents of violence continued in parts of Gujarat, taking the death toll in the five day orgy of violence to nearly 500 even as the worst-hit state's commercial hub was limping back to normalcy though curfew continued in many places.

Curfew was imposed in Deodhar and Bhabhor towns of Sabarkantha district while in Jadar town some houses and shops were set on fire, following which the police opened fire.

The curfew continued at 47 places in the state while it was relaxed at some places to enable people to buy essential commodities.

Gujarat assembly sitting postponed
Gandhinagar: The sitting of the Gujarat assembly for budget session has been postponed till 12 March in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

The house, which was scheduled to meet from 4 March, would meet again on 12 March.

The budget session began on 26 February with the governor's address and the budget was presented on 27 February, the day of the Godhra carnage.
