Relief package for Gujarat victims
Ahmedabad: Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced a package of
relief measures for the riot-hit people of Gujarat, including two months of
free ration to below poverty line families living in affected areas.
Announcing the package at the end of his day-long visit to Godhra and Ahmedabad
and some relief camps sheltering violence victims, Vajpayee told reporters here
that each affected family below poverty line would be provided with 35 kilogram
of foodgrain.
This measure has been taken as these families were suffering economically and
they had no no jobs, he said.
Vajpayee said the expenditure on foodgrain provided in relief camps would be
borne by the Centre.
Each bereaved family would be paid Rs.one lakh as ex-gratia from the PM's
Relief fund, Vajpayee said, adding this would be in addition to Rs.50,000 each
being given to these families by the state government.
Those who suffered permanent disability in the violence would be given Rs
50,000 each, he said.

Sebi
to review corp governance code
Mumbai: Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) will review
capital market regulations, including listing agreements and corporate
governance code, to improve working of regulatory system, Sebi chairman G N
Bajpai said.
"There is scope to do more in the area of corporate governance and the
review of regulations would include listing agreements as well," Bajpai
told reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by Indian Merchants
Chamber here.

sack DPC security staff
Mumbai: The Indian lenders to Dabhol Power Company (DPC) has laid off
150 security personnel at the plant site in Guhagar and reappointed former
sub-contractor Punj Lloyd for its care and preservation.
Punj Lloyd has been reappointed as the care and preservation agency for the $3
billion plant as it was in charge of the same function before termination of
their contracts on 15 September 2001.
A team of 17 persons along with high court receiver M A Patel and FI officials
has parked itself in the 2,184 mw plant is taking stock of the numerous
physical assets.
