India 7th in world telecom sector
Kolkata: India has
jumped to the seventh spot in the world in telecommunication sector in 2002
after being in the 14th position four years ago.
Minister of state for telecommunication Tapan Sikdar said, "In the world
of telecommunication, India is in 14th position in 2002. In 1999 we were
seventh. This was made possible due to immense development in this
sector."
Going by the trend of development, there was hope that the country would be in
third or fourth place within a few years, Sikdar said.

Duty-free
access to 40 Bangladesh products
Dhaka: India has agreed
to provide duty-free market access to 40 Bangladeshi products under 16
categories to boost bilateral trade and bridge burgeoning trade gap between the
two neighbours.
The decision to give duty-free access to Bangladeshi goods came at the extended
commerce secretary-level meeting between the two countries.
A joint press statement issued at the end of the talks said India agreed to
provide duty-free access to Bangladeshi exportables including prepared food,
pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, toiletries, soap, leather products , electrical
wires, battery, electrical goods, aluminium products, artificial flowers,
voltage stabilizer, transformers and furniture.

Ficci
pacts with Phnom Penh body
New Delhi: The
Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry signed an agreement of
cooperation with Phnom Penh Chamber of Commerce (PPCC) on 10 April.
The aim of the MoU is to promote,
improve and develop economic relations and trade between the business
communities in India and Cambodia.
