Inflation down to 1.38 %
New Delhi: Despite an
eight per cent fall in LPG price, inflation saw a marginal 0.06 per cent dip to
1.38 per cent for the week ended 30 March.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) fell from 1.44 per cent a week ago and the
index was 4.87 per cent in the previous week.
However, prices soared for fruits and vegetables, milk, condiments and spices,
copra, kerosene, naphtha, light diesel oil and furnace oil, toothpaste, ginelly
oil, soyabean oil, canvas footwear and rubber chappal during the last week of
financial year 2001-02.
The index was 159.2 a year ago period.

Forex
reserves at $54.55 billion
Mumbai: Total foreign
exchange reserves, including gold and SDR, went up $ 401 million to $54.55
billion during the week ended 5 April, according to the Reserve Bank of India
(RBI).
While the foreign currency assets went
up $ 406 million, the value of gold went down $ 5 million. A significant growth
in reserves has been on account of FDI inflows. Outstanding bank credit as on
29 March amounted to Rs 6,04,487 crore, representing a growth of Rs 39,029
crore over the previous month.

ADB to fund 3
UP development projects
Agra: The Asian
Development Bank has agreed to fund development projects in Agra, Mathura and
Firozabad districts to the tune of Rs 3,800 crore.
ADB has cleared projects for light rail transport system, strengthening of the
pollution control board, afforestation in Taj Trapezium zone, improvement of
the glass industry at Firozabad, relocation of 76 industrial units of Agra,
changing of furnaces of foundry units, sewer treatment plants at Mathura and
Firozabad, improvement of the Mansi gang at Mathura, construction of
Fatehpursikri road near Arjunnagar and construction of a railway overbridge on
the projected southern bypass.
Other projects cleared include construction of a northern bypass, health
security and child security programmes, development of the Taj National Park,
control of pollution in Mathura refinery, construction of the Taj barrage and
conservation of the Mehtabbagh and gadens at the Taj Agra fort, Sikandra and
Fatehpursikri.
