Shahi takes over as new power secy
New Delhi: R.V. Shahi has assumed charge as the secretary in the union ministry of power. An engineer by profession, he was earlier the chairman and managing director of BSES for nearly eight years. He has also been on the boards of NTPC and PowerGrid.

Shahi has to his credit varied experience of project construction, operation and maintenance in leading public sector undertakings such as National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) in a career spanning over 30 years.

B N Kirpal to be next chief justice of India
New Delhi: President K R Narayanan has approved the appointment of Justice B N Kirpal as Chief Justice of India with effect from 6 May.

He will succeed Chief Justice S P Bharucha.
