Car sales up
New Delhi: Hyundai
Motor India ended as a better second in the 2001-02 fiscal with a 15.3 per cent
share of the car market, while the countrys largest carmaker Maruti Udyog
managed to hold on to its sales and market share.
Telco emerged as the surprise winner during the last fiscal with its spruced up
Indica V2 driving in volumes for the firm. Telco, with a 45 per cent surge in
sales, cornered an 11.2 per cent share of the passenger car market. Telco ended
as the countrys second largest passenger vehicle manufacturer.
Fiat India also got a fresh lease of life with its latest offering Palio
driving higher on the popularity chart. The company sold 21,277 cars, including
Siena, Uno and Weekend, during the year, 188 per cent higher than its year-ago
sales.
