CII to set up IT panel in US
Bangalore: The
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has decided to set up a US-based
offshore infotech committee for Indian companies which will act as a forum for
interaction and set norms for healthy competition.
"The committees role will be
to safeguard the Indian brand equity and interact with the US administration on
issues such as visa," Ashok Soota, president, CII, said.
Soota will lead a mission of chief
executive officers to the US from 17 June for setting up the committee and also
to meet US administration officials.
Soota said the CII would also
institute a quality stamp for Indian IT services to win customer
confidence and would have stringent qualifying criteria based on the CII
business excellence award model.

KRC to develop
ring railway
Mumbai: The Konkan
Railway Corporation is in talks with the Singapore Land Transport Authority to
develop a ring railway route around the South-East Asian city.
It has already submitted plans in this
regard. According to the CMD of KRC, B Rajaram, the Singapore authorities have
plans for a $ 3-billion ring route railway around the city over a 10-year
period.
Rajaram claimed that the KRC
technology is more cost effective compared to the others.
He added that the anti-collision
device developed by KRC is being marketed as a safety shield for preventing
railway collisions and will be installed on the Jallandhar-Amritsar railway
route shortly.

Biman to
start Dhaka-Delhi link
Dhaka: Bangladesh's
national carrier Biman will start a point-to-point linkage service between
Dhaka and Delhi next week.
The two capitals will have a point-to-point connection with the airlines
operating two weekly flights. The new service will become operational from 6
May.
Delhi and Dhaka are now connected by the airline's New York flight, which will
henceforth be stopped.
The flights will be operated on Monday and Thursday.

Software
exports grow 29%
New Delhi: Indian
software exports registered a growth of 29 per cent to touch Rs 36,500 crore in
2001-02 as compared to Rs 28,350 crore in 2000-2001, according to National
Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom).
Nasscom has forecast a growth of 30 per cent in 2002-2003.
The contribution of software exports to India's total exports has gone up to
16.5 per cent.
