Centre to invite EoIs for leasing out 4 major airports
Private companies will be
asked over the next 10 days to submit expressions of interest (EoIs) for leases
to run four of Indias largest airports as the country bids to upgrade them
to world standards, a top airport official said on Wednesday.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI)
chief financial officer VDV Prasad Rao said that he expected the leases for the
airports at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai to be awarded by the end of
March 2003.

Kandla Port
To Change Berthing Policy
One of Indias busiest
ports, Kandla, will change its berthing policy to give priority to rice
shipments and ease congestion caused by a spurt in grain exports, the Port
chairman said on Wednesday.
"Were changing the berthing
policy from July 1 to provide an additional berth to rice exporters. This
should help ease current congestion," AK Joti said.

e-bourse on sugar gets nod
The government has finally
cleared the decks for trading in sugar futures, a hedging practice prevalent in
the international markets. On Monday, the government formally cleared the
application of the Shishir Bajaj group- sponsored Esugarindia Pvt Ltd, a B2B
sugar portal. The clearance is effective from Thursday, and would be valid for
a period of five years to May 31, 2007.
The government, in consultation with
the Forward Markets Commission (FMC), cleared the application in exercise of
the powers conferred by Section 6 of the Forward Contracts (Regulation) Act,
1952. The recognition is subject to the condition that the exchange and
Esugarindia Clearing Corporation, the clearing corporation set up by
Esugarindia Pvt Ltd, would comply with such directions as may from time to
time, be given by FMC, the clearance notification added
