discuss the issue of extending sovereign guarantees for a untied credit
facility of $150 million under the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance
untied credit insurance cover for the Teesta stage-V hydel power project in
Sikkim.

Small savings up 21% in Q1

Poverty level may slide to 19% by 2007
New Delhi: The Planning Commission has projected an 8% decline in poverty
levels during the next five years with the percentage of the BPL people
expected to go down to 19.17% by 2007 from 27.01% estimated in the 55th
round of consumption survey conducted by the National Sample Survey
Organisation (July 1999-June 2000).

Inflation rate dips to 3%

basic metals pulled down the inflation rate by 0.19 per cent to 2.66 per
cent by August 3, a week after it touched the yearly peak.

Gujarat poll: Govt puts ball in Kalam court
New Delhi: Clearly not in a mood to accept the Election Commissions
decision on Gujarat polls, the Cabinet on Sunday decided to make a
Presidential reference to seek the Supreme Courts opinion on whether the
commission can recommend imposition of Central rule in a state where it
feels polls cannot be held.

CII seeks bank funds for acquisition of core cos
