Bailout conundrum
Mumbai: Japanese yen depreciated sharply to almost touch 124 levels against the dollar. In the environment where dollar continues to remain weak against all the other currencies, this move stands out. The Japanese Prime Minister has indicated that the Government would bring the third `anti-deflation' package in October.

Andhra Bank plans campaign 
Kochi: Andhra Bank is planning to conduct a special housing loan campaign from October 4 for a week across its 15 branches in Kerala. As part of its campaign, the bank is offering special rates of interest on housing loans besides waiver of processing charges.

Bankers bet on PSU debt papers for large spreads
Bond markets continued to be lacklustre for the second consecutive week, with traders gripped by fears over fiscal deficit and rising inflation. As a result, the 10-year yield to maturity (YTM) remained almost steady at 7.18 on a weighted average basis last week-end. During the previous week, the ten-year YTM had ended at 7.19 per cent.

Charminar bank revival: CM's intervention sought
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister,N. Chandrababu Naidu, has been urged to intervene in the matter relating to the collapse of the Hyderabad-based Charminar Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd, and work out ways to revive the bank to safeguard the interest of scores of depositors.
