says US has okayed P-3 Orion sale to India
New Delhi: Washington has decided to sell 30 P-3
Orion maritime surveillance aircraft to New Delhi. The
deal was signed recently and the requisite notification
to the Congress is awaited.

good use of GATS provisions: WTO official
New Delhi: In the on-going negotiations on services
at the World Trade Organisation, India should take advantage
of the provisions in the General Agreement on Trade in
Services which allow flexibility to developing countries,
and formulate requests and offers accordingly.

New Delhi: The commerce ministry, which is framing
a medium-term export strategy for services, has called
for major policy initiatives to attract foreign direct
investment in the the software sector through joint ventures
and invited suggestions from trade and industry, including
exporters.

Fernandes
Oman visit from tomorrow
New Delhi: Defence minister George Fernandes is
leaving on a two-day visit to Oman on Saturday. According
to sources in the Oman embassy here, Mr Fenandes is
visiting the country on an invitation extended to him
by his Omanian counterpart Sayid Badar-bin-Saud-al-Busaidi
who visited India earlier this year.
