row: miles to go before India, EU come closer
New Delhi: Indias exports of textiles and
clothing to the 15-nation European Union amounted to $3.7
billion last year, Chinas to $9.4 billion. Logically,
you would expect European textile and garment manufacturers
to feel more threatened by China than India, and to press
the EUs textile negotiators in Geneva to take a
much tougher line towards Beijing than New Delhi.

asks for rise in cap on foreign firms Pprticipation
New Delhi: Business leaders from EU on Thursday
asked India to increase the 26 per cent cap on participation
by foreign companies, make venture capital at par with
FIIs and remove purchase preference for public sector
enterprises in international competitive bidding process
in line with WTO norms on government procurement.
