Sydney consensus to help drug exports
New Delhi: With a strong convergence for allowing those countries with little or no manufacturing capacity in the pharmaceutical sector to import essential drugs at cheaper cost under the compulsory licensing mechanism, at the last week’s Sydney mini-ministerial, the focus will now shift to the Geneva-based WTO where negotiators will strive to hammer out a decision on the issue by December 31, the deadline set by the Doha ministerial.
